Two pupils killed by lightning strike in Free State

One girl was struck on her way home from school at Khayelisha in Bloemfontein, while the other two girls were struck in Thaba Nchu.
The Department of Education in Free State has confirmed that two pupils died after being struck by lightning on Monday.
The two pupils, aged between 10 and 12, died on the scene while another is recovering in hospital.

“We have learnt with shock about the passing away of the two learners, this happened in the afternoon as the learners were leaving the school going home, we convey our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, fellow learners, and teachers of the deceased learners,” says spokesperson Howard Ndaba.
“We have deployed our social workers, working together with the Social Development to also give support to the learners, families, and teachers who might need this intervention.”
