Two Soshanguve pupils assaulted for ‘being late’
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The Gauteng Department of Education says a case of assault has been opened after two pupils were beaten for apparently being late for school.

The pupils, who attend Soshanguve South Secondary School in Tshwane, were allegedly beaten by community members on Monday.
Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona said that the school’s principal and officials attempted to intervene, only to be threatened and verbally abused.
"The community members allegedly overpowered scholar patrollers and forced their way into the school premises where they reportedly began beating girl and boy learners."
Mabona said an assault case has been opened with the local police.
Counselling will be provided to the victims and staff.
"We strongly condemn this unacceptable act of violence and urge community members to refrain from taking the law into their own hands," Mabona added.
