Two stages of load shedding to kick off the week
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Eskom will implement stage 1 load shedding from 8 am until 4 pm on Monday, whereafter the system will be switched to stage 2 until 10 pm.
The embattled power utility says this pattern will repeat itself on Tuesday, with a high likelihood that the situation would remain the same on Wednesday.
"Eskom will continue to communicate timeously should there be any changes as the system remains unreliable and vulnerable," says Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha.
Load shedding was necessary this weekend to replenish the emergency generation reserves, which were depleted over the past week."
He says the good news is that several generation units are expected to return to service during the next few days, something which will help ease supply constraints.
"Unplanned breakdowns amount to 9 272MW of capacity, adding to the 6 314MW currently out on planned maintenance.
Eskom teams are working around the clock to return as many of these generation units to service as possible."
