Two trials of men murdering their partners to get underway in Polokwane
The High Court in Polokwane will today see the start of two separate trials in which two men are charged with murdering their partners.
Attorney Lawrence Tleane and taxi driver Josias Leboho are accused of murdering their partners in December and May 2021 respectively.
Tleane allegedly murdered his girlfriend Tumi Seshuene in December 2021 by hitting her with his car at Lesedi Park, outside Polokwane.
Following his first court appearance, Tleane was released on bail of R1 000.
In September 2022, Tleane’s murder case was provisionally withdrawn as the docket was not on the court roll.
In March this year, the matter was taken back to court following multiple engagements with the Director of Public Prosecution and Investigating Officer in the case.
Non-profit organization Lentswe Laka Foundation co-founder Bridget Ramokone says that the case was premeditated and they expect a harsh sentence to be handed down.
“Gender Based Violence and Femicide continues to increase in South Africa, as a result, Lentswe Laka Foundation calls on the courts to impose hefty sentences for perpetrators of such violence, this to send a message that our country does not tolerate acts of GBVF.
“We call upon the court to ensure the matters are not delayed any further. Justice delayed is justice denied!”
Meanwhile, taxi driver Josias Leboho, will also appear at the same court for the murder of his ex-fiance, Tshepo Rakoma.
Leboho was arrested in May 2021, after he sprayed the Capitec Bank Consultant's car with bullets, killing her instantly in a parking lot of a shopping center in the Polokwane CBD.
Leboho is facing charges of murder, theft, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Ramokone adds that the foundation is expecting that the trial resumes without any delays.
