Unite for Change opens candidate recruitment drive
Updated | By Nomfundo Twala
Unite for Change has officially opened its candidate recruitment drive for next year’s local government elections, calling on South Africans to step up and be part of the movement for transformation.
Three political parties, Build One South Africa, GOOD, and Rise Mzansi, joined forces in October to form a new political movement called Unite for Change.
Speaking in Cape Town on Sunday, party co-leader Mmusi Maimane stressed that the next election will be a decisive moment for the country.
“We need change,” he said, pointing to persistent issues such as water and electricity shortages, unemployment, and weak governance.
Maimane criticised the current state of local government, arguing that it has lost direction and integrity.
He urged South Africans to rally behind a new generation of ethical and capable leaders, saying, “We cannot keep doing things the same way and expect different results.”
He called for collaboration between political parties, civil society, and ordinary citizens to build a movement rooted in good governance and accountability.
“We are the ones we’ve been waiting for,” Maimane said, encouraging unity among those who want to see meaningful change.
