Several areas in the city, including Hammanskraal in the north, has been struggling with water quality over the past year.

The city says the introduction of water and chemical toilets is part of the measures to curb the spread of coronavirus in densely populated areas in the city.

Tshwane’s Lefadi Makibinyane says there will be a total of 969 water tanks that will service informal settlements.

“We are grateful to an organisation that donated 40 000 litres of borehole in Region 2. The trucks will be filling water from this borehole during the lockdown period.

"We requested a total of 2 334 chemical toilets, including replacements, and received 502 chemical toilets with 1 840 chemical toilets still outstanding."
