Updated | By Lindiwe Mpanza
A collision involving nine cars and two trucks claimed the lives of at least seven people on the N1 near the Pumulani Toll Plaza on Friday.
Fire engulfed some of the vehicles following the massive collision caused by obscured visibility due to a nearby veld fire.
Tshwane metro police spokesperson Isaac Mahamba says seven bodies were recovered, all of whom were burnt beyond recognition.
"Four of which were adults and three minors. All seven of them came from one car, a Toyota Avanza."
The N1 between Petroport and Walmansdaal remains closed and traffic is being diverted to R101.
