Vaal Dam levels continue to drop
Updated | By Lulutho Mkosi
The Department of Water and Sanitation says the water levels in the Vaal Dam have dropped to new lows.
In October, the dam levels stood at 50% but has now dropped to 44,66%.
The department’s Sputnik Ratau says water consumption by Gauteng residents is at an all-time high and this is contributing to the decreasing dam levels.
“As of yesterday (Monday) morning, the Vaal Dam was at 44,66% and therefore we are continuing to see the decline in the level of Vaal Dam.
“We are aware that the high temperatures are impacting negatively on the dam levels because of the high rates of evaporation, but we are also seeing high rates of water consumption.
“We haven’t imposed water restrictions on the Integrated Vaal River System yet, because we have not come to that point where we think it is necessary to impose restrictions.”
