Valentine's Day by candle light: Stage 2 #loadshedding
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Eskom has announced stage 2 load-shedding for Thursday.
The embattled power utility says the rotational power cuts were implemented at 8am and are expected to continue until 10pm.
Eskom says the need to enforce rotational power cuts is due to a shortage of capacity.
Load-shedding became a reality again this weekend, with the lights going off everyday so far this week. Stage 4 loadshedding was introduced on Monday, while Stage Three scheduled were used on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Stage Two load-shedding calls for 2,000MW to be rotationally shed nationally.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to announce plans to resolve the crisis at Eskom when he replies to the debate on his State of the Nation Address in the National Assembly on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Ramaphosa said while he is shocked at how quickly the situation has escalated, South Africans should remain calm as the government will announce solutions to the crisis.
"I'm going to be able to say to South Africans: ‘Let's not panic’. In some ways we have been here before and we came out on the other side of the river and we will address this issue, and this challenge and this problem and we will find solutions. And solutions are actually emerging. And we will be okay."
