Veld fire rages in Polokwane

Firefighters in Polokwane have contained the raging veld fire that raged in a yard next to the South African National Defence Force’s (SANDF) Mapungubwe Regiment in Annadale.
The blaze ignited on Monday.
Municipal spokesperson Thipa Selala says the smoke from the fire was further exacerbated by a pile of tyres.

“Polokwane Municipality advises all residents to be vigilant against possible dangers that could be caused by fires, to replace any electrical cords that are worn, frayed, or damagedand to make sure all matches, lighters, and ashtrays are out of children's sight and reach.
“Cigarette smokers are discouraged from disposing of cigarette butts in the open fields, in particular in places where there is grass but rather use deep ashtray or smokers’ poles.”
