VIDEO: Meet the BLF leader giving land to victimised women

Veli Mtshazo is a Black First Land First (BLF) leader who has taken it upon himself to relocate unoccupied land to the poor backroom residents of Ivory Park, east of Johannesburg.

Mtshazo denies accusations that the party is grabbing land, but says it is rather developing unused land for black people who do not have stands.

Louis Du Plessis, Head of Land and Housing at Lawyers for Human Rights, says nobody has the right to unlawfully enter properties.

Du Plessis says there are a number of acts that can be followed.

"The Restitution Act or one of the distribution programmes from the department. There is also the RDP projects or different municipalities have different programmes. But if you are not the owner of the land you can't enter the property," says Du Plessis.

Du Plessis says there are legal avenues an owner can follow to remove people who have occupied land.
