[WATCH] Cape Town pupil suspended for setting classmate’s hair alight

A grade 8 pupil at Belgravia High School in Cape Town has been suspended pending a disciplinary hearing for setting a classmate’s hair alight.
In the latest bullying incident to go viral, the boy can be seen on video taunting the girl, pouring a liquid on her hair.
He can be heard telling other pupils the girl’s hair can’t catch fire.
He steps out of shot briefly before returning with a lighter and set’s her ponytail alight.
The incident happened on Monday while the teacher had stepped out of the classroom.
Western Cape Education MEC Debbie Schäfer slammed the boy’s behaviour.
“The bullying incident recorded at Belgravia High School is truly shocking.
“The school took immediate action. The perpetrator’s parents were called to the school to explain the seriousness of the situation and he has been suspended.
Schäfer added an ant-bullying campaign would be launched at the school.
“Once again I am very disappointed to see that we have a situation where learners have filmed and distributed a video of child being bullied.
“When such videos go viral, they compound the hurt and the shame experienced by the learner being bullied.”
She urged pupils to rather report the mater to school officials.
Earlier this year, Limpopo teen Lufuno Mavhungu died of suicide after she was bullied by a pupil from the same school.
