WATCH: Co-founder of Satanic Church ‘turns to Jesus’
Updated | By Doreen Loubser
The co-founder and reverend at the Satanic Church of South Africa has resigned from the organisation after turning to Christianity.
Riaan Swiegelaar, who successfully registered the church as a religious organisation two years ago, said he resonated with the philosophy of Satanism as he was a broken person.
He said over the past three years he had met several thousand Satanists who all had one thing in common - they were broken.
He took to Facebook on Monday to share his testimony and warned that the Satanic church is growing and will continue to exist.
"The organisation is very big and there are certain things I would not be able to talk about as I signed a non-disclosure agreement."
He said the church has been around for a long time and he was just part of making it public.
An emotional Swiegelaar said he is an openly gay man and God showed him that Christianity is not a gated community, and that it’s about grace and love.
He says in May this year he was doing a radio interview on Cape Talk where he discussed why he was an atheist.
Once the interview was done a Christian lady came to hug him and he felt unconditional love from someone in a community he treated like a monster.
Swiegelaar said he went home and did a ritual which was common practice in Satanism, but asked God if he really existed.
He said at that point Jesus appeared to him and flooded him with the most incredible love and energy.
Swiegelaar added that he won't be focusing on fellow Satanists to try and get them out of the occult, but would rather focus on healing people with love and light.
The Satanic Church of South Africa has meanwhile confirmed Swiegelaar's resignation from their organisation and thanked him for his contribution.
