Authorities in Gauteng are trying to locate a man who was filmed sitting
in a shopping trolley on the N1 while holding onto the back of a fuel tanker.
The video, which has been widely shared on social media, shows a man wearing a brightly coloured jacket sitting in a trolley, holding onto the tanker while smiling and waving at motorists.
Gauteng Traffic spokesperson Sello Maremane says there is nothing funny about the man’s behaviour.

“Gauteng traffic police are disappointed by the behaviour of a hitchhiker who was seen travelling with a grocery trolley attached to a heavy motor vehicle yesterday (Sunday) on N1 freeway in rainy conditions.
“Such behaviour is both irresponsible and illegal and will never be tolerated by law enforcement authorities.”
Maremane says the suspect will be brought to book.
“In terms of the National Road Traffic Act, anyone who constitutes as a source of danger to himself or herself thereby endangering other road uses, commits and offence and may be convicted to one-year direct imprisonment without the option of a fine, if convicted in the court of law.”
