WATCH LIVE: IEC wraps up elections as final results announced
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is set to declare the 2021 local government elections on Thursday evening.
It’s a culmination of months of preparations, weeks of campaigning and days of voting.
Political parties and candidates will learn their fate tonight when the electoral body announces the much anticipated results.
At least 10,000 councillors will take up seats at 257 municipal councils for the next 5 years.
This includes 8 highly contested metropolitan councils, 44 district councils and 205 local councils.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to join proceedings at the national results operations centre in Tshwane.
