[WATCH LIVE] President-elect Joe Biden, Kamala Harris to be sworn in
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
President-elect Joe Biden will assume his role as new leader of the United States on Wednesday - after being officially sworn in as America's 46th president.
Biden’s inauguration ceremony will take place at the Capitol Building, in Washington, D.C. under very tight security.
The usual celebratory scenes will absent this year amid the coronavirus pandemic and fears of unrest.
Biden takes the reigns from the controversial Donald Trump after a fiercely contested November 3 polls where he claimed a 306-232 victory over Trump.
High-profile politicians are expected to join the inauguration at the capital.
But Trump will be a no-show, making him the first president in more than 150 years to snub the inauguration of his successor.
Kamala Harris will be sworn in as his Vice President.
