WATCH: Truck driver in viral video arrested
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The Department of Community Safety in Mpumalanga wants the driving licence, belonging to the truck driver in a viral video, to be revoked.
The video, captured on the R34 in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday, has caused outrage.
The speeding truck can be seen recklessly overtaking other trucks, overtaking on blind rises, and clipping a trailer while failing to stop.
MEC for Community Safety in Mpumalanga Vusi Shongwe says even though the incident occurred in KZN, the truck is registered in Mpumalanga.
“People like the driver in question do not deserve to have driving licenses. Crashes that involve trucks often produces many fatalities especially when public transport is involved.
"To ensure such incidences don’t repeat, the Department will engage with the owner of the truck. The department will also have a programme to engage other truck owners to ensure safety on the roads.”
