[WATCH] Smaller parties threaten legal action against IEC

A group of smaller parties contesting the elections are threatening court action over what they claim to be irregularities in the processes of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

Smaller parties court action

The group, which includes the African Transformation Movement (ATM), Black First Land First (BLF) and Social Revolutionary Workers Party (SWRP) met on Thursday to address various concerns, including lack of coverage in the media ahead of the polls.

The ATM's Mzwanele Manyi questioned the credibility of the elections amid the double vote furore.

"As you can see that my left thumb is as clean as it gets, so if I had wanted to go and vote anywhere else nothing would have stopped me from doing that.

"So we are saying with all with all these double votes that have come to pass the credibility of these elections is at stake.”

Manyi claimed the elections were not free and fair.

"So these parties here are here to bring that to the attention of the people of South Africa that this whole thing here is not what it projected to be, a free and fair elections.

"Their processes have been flawed. There's been all kinds of issues that have been raised."

The parties could not say when they will officially lodging their complaint at the Electoral Court.
