Water supply improves across Gauteng after maintenance work
Water supply systems across Gauteng are steadily returning to normal following the completion of Rand Water's second phase of planned maintenance, according to the Gauteng government.
In a statement on Tuesday morning, it said the recovery process has progressed without any major disruptions, with reservoir levels improving and water pressure gradually stabilising in affected municipalities.
The province said water supply has largely stabilised, although some areas are still recovering as municipal systems continue to refill.
Mogale City remains the hardest-hit municipality, with water tankers continuing to supply affected communities while the network recovers.
In Johannesburg, an unplanned City Power outage at the Eikenhof substation delayed water restoration by slowing the refilling of reservoirs and water towers.
In Ekurhuleni, pumping operations have resumed following the planned maintenance, but officials say the system still needs time to fully recover, with water expected to return to low-lying areas before higher-lying communities.
Residents have been urged to continue using water responsibly while the province's water systems return to full capacity.
