The water utility began the final leg of its maintenance programme in the city on Friday, with residents warned of possible outages or low-pressure in taps.

The project aims to improve Rand Water's infrastructure in Gauteng, North West and Mpumalanga.

“Soshanguve and Mabopane in Region 1, supplied by Rand Water’s Hartebeeshoek Reservoir, are some of the areas that have been negatively affected as they have been experiencing water supply challenges since the second phase of the maintenance programme commenced over a week ago,” said the city’s Selby Bokaba on Sunday.

The water utility announced that it will not pump water at the Mapleton System for three days, starting on Friday.

Bokaba said residents and businesses are urged to reduce their water consumption until reservoir levels are back at full capacity.

“We have been monitoring the reservoir levels through our telemetry system. So, as and when we see that the levels of a reservoir are declining we dispatch the water tankers.

“We have dispatched water tankers to most of the areas where the levels have either declined or completely been depleted.”
