“Silambile kodwa baqamele phez’ kwemali,” staff members sang while protesting outside the ANC’s Luthuli House headquarters in Johannesburg.

The ANC has been struggling to pay worker salaries for months on end, which prompted yet another picket outside its offices.

On Monday, a handful of protestors gathered along Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Street in the Johannesburg CBD over unpaid salaries.

Some ANC staff members have been paid for the month of July, while all workers have not been paid their August salaries.

ANC staff representative Mandla Qwabe says the month of September is also looking bleak.

“And what worsens things is that some of our members who have not been paid their salaries that come as far as July. They have not been paid for August and there are no signs that they will be paid for the month of September as well. And that concerns us. That is why we are here. In the main we are trying to put pressure on the leadership to give this matter a priority.”

ANC staffers are expected to meet with the party’s leadership on Monday afternoon.
