We will win the Nquthu municipality’ says ANC

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu Natal says it is confident it will win a clear majority in Wednesday’s hotly-contested by-elections in Nquthu.

The elections follow the dissolution of the local council by the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nomusa Dube-Ncube in February.
The ANC’s Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu says they have campaigned tirelessly in the run-up to the elections.
“We have had contact with the different voters, we have conducted door-to-door campaigns, we held community meetings in the area and we have been engaging voters who support other political parties and those considered neutral. We have received positive feedback and we believe we will really win this municipality.”
Seventeen wards and sixteen Proportional Representation (PR) council seats are up for grabs in the by-election. There are 76 606 registered voters in 116 voting districts.
The Electoral Commission’s (IEC) Kate Bapela says its officials are ready to ensure a smooth ride come election day.
“We have trained officials who will be manning the voting stations, we have also consulted with all political parties contesting to ensure their party representatives are ready for tomorrow. We are comfortable with the preparations we have done,” says Bapela.
