Wentworth parcel not a bomb, say police
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Police have confirmed that a suspicious parcel found in the south of Durban was not an explosive device.
Officers were called to a supermarket in Wentworth on Monday afternoon.
Video footage of an explosion at the centre circulated on social media, but national police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo insists no bomb was found.
"We were called about a suspicious parcel, we responded, and it was proven to be negative," he said.
Naidoo says police are concerned about the number of hoax calls in the city.
"What is important is that people need to understand that making such calls are a criminal offence. If found guilty, you will be send to jail."
