Western Cape starts ‘22 with highest number of new Covid cases

The Western Cape has recorded the highest number of new Covid-19 cases as the country ushers in a new year.
This after the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported 3112 new positive cases in the provinces.
The figures reflect the latest 24-hour reporting period.
For at least a week, KwaZulu-Natal has followed closely behind reporting 2935 new cases in the same period.
The two coastal provinces account for more than 50% of the 11 754 total cases.
The number of Covid-related fatalities jumped to 91 145 with the latest 84 deaths.
