The weather service has issued a warning for widespread thundershowers over the North West, Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal until Thursday.

According to forecaster, Kumsa Masizana, there's a 60 - 80% chance of rain over the eastern parts of the country.

"We are expecting some good rainfall amounts. We got a very high, favourable upper air system that is going to bring in some rain over the eastern parts of the country. We might also have a warning for localised flooding for those areas."

Masizana says 15 to 25mm of rain can be expected for Gauteng which might result in localised flooding.

Temperatures are expected to drop and remain below 15ºC in Johannesburg and over the Highveld for Monday.

The temperatures are expected to improve slightly on Tuesday - increasing to 18ºC.

The weather service also issued an advisory for snow expected in the northern interior of the Eastern Cape, and along the Lesotho border.
