Woman commits suicide in Limpopo hospital

The Limpopo Department of Health is investigating a suicide at MeckLenburg Hospital in the Sekhukhune District.
A woman was found hanging inside the ward toilets at the facility.
Spokesperson Neil Shikwambana says the deceased was the mother of a toddler who was admitted to the hospital.
“The woman was a mother lodger who was staying at the hospital while her three-month-old baby was admitted to the hospital since Sunday. She needed to be closer to toddler to be able to take care of her needs.”

It is understood that in the early hours of Tuesday morning, the mother told a fellow mother she was going to the bathroom.
Shikwambana says staff the began searching for her after she failed to return.
“Later on nurses came looking for her because her toddler was crying and need attention, so they could not find her in the room and where directed to the bathroom where she said she went to earlier. She was discovered hanging from the ceiling inside the toilet.”
