Woodmead shootout leaves 2 suspects dead, four arrested

A shootout between police and armed robbers left two suspects dead on the N1 near Woodmead on Wednesday.
Northbound traffic between Johannesburg and Grayston Drive was heavily backed up due to the incident.
Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says they acted after receiving information of a planned robbery in the area.

Masondo says right before midday, three cars with ten suspects started shooting at a Toyota Fortuner.
A shootout then ensued between the suspects and the police.

Masondo says the shootout resulted in two fatalities, two injuries and two arrests.
Four other suspects are still at large.
Masondo says as investigations are underway, he cannot divulge why the Fortuner was targeted.
No police officers were injured or killed in the incident.
