Zondo inquiry attacking Zuma's credibility, says lawyer

Jacob Zuma's lawyer Daniel Mantsha has described the way the former president is being questioned at the commission of inquiry into state capture as an attack on his credibility.
Mantsha was speaking to the media after a dramatic adjournment of proceedings to Friday.
Zuma believes the line of questioning amounts to cross-examination, a grievance his lawyers have raised since Monday.
"As you have seen today the president was being asked about memorandums with the intention to attack his credibility because if they really wanted to the president to clarify any issues, they would say: ‘President, this witness said you stole money.’ He would answer to that," said Mantsha.

The commission adjourned for both legal teams to try and find a way to address the concerns without undermining the work of the commission.
"It is this kind of unfairness and perceived bias towards the former president to treat him as an accused person and a king of this so-called state capture. We have decided not to engage him in the gossip of people who have been fired by him and now have a gripe and people who have agendas for a variety of reasons," added Mantsha.
He said none of the people who mentioned Zuma’s name in their testimony implicated him in any crime.
