Zuma a law-abiding citizen - ANC

The African National Congress (ANC) says former president Jacob Zuma is a law-abiding citizen.
This after the Pietermaritzburg High Court issued a warrant of arrest for Zuma on Tuesday after he failed to attend court proceedings. However, the warrant was stayed and will only be effective if Zuma fails to appear in court on May 6.
Zuma and French arms company Thales faces charges related to the multibillion-rand arms deal.
In January, Zuma’s attorney’s handed a medical note to the court to explain the former president’s illness and his subsequent absence in court on February 4.

In a short statement, the governing party says Zuma has consistently respected the courts and submitted himself to judicial processes regardless of his stature.
"The ANC has noted developments around court proceedings regarding former president Jacob Zuma by the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
"In keeping with its principle of upholding and defending the independence of the judiciary, the ANC respects the decision of the court.
"Former president Jacob Zuma is a law-abiding citizen who has consistently respected the courts and submitted himself to judicial processes regardless of his stature. He has always co-operated with law-enforcement agencies whenever asked to do so."
