Zuma to supply reasons for cabinet reshuffle
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The North Gauteng High Court has ruled that President Jacob Zuma must provide reasons for his decision to reshuffle his cabinet at the end of March.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) approached the court, saying the party believes it is entitled to know the reasons behind the decision taken, which has had major repercussions.
The country's economy has taken a knock after Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan was axed, along with his deputy, with two credit ratings agencies downgrading South Africa's sovereign credit rating to junk status.
Judge Bashier Vally has given the president five days to provide the reasons.
"The first respondent is to dispatch to the applicant's attorneys within five court days of the date of this order the record of all documents and electronic records, including correspondents contracts, memoranda, advices, recommendations, evaluations and reports that relate to the making of the decision which was sought to be reviewed and set aside," said Vally.
