Zuma’s bid to remove prosecutor in corruption case rejected
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Jacob Zuma's lost another bid to have the lead prosecutor in his corruption case removed.

The Pietermaritzburg High Court has dismissed the former president's application for leave to appeal last year's March ruling.
Zuma previously filed an application, arguing that having Advocate Billy Downer on the case would prejudice him and deny his right to a fair trial.
But that request was dismissed in 2024.

The same judge, Nkosinathi Chili, ruled against the application this morning, saying he does not believe that any court will rule differently in the matter.
Zuma's counsel, Dali Mpofu says they will next petition the Supreme Court of Appeal in a bid to challenge Chili's ruling.
All attempts by the former president to remove Downer from the case have so far failed.
He was able to bring this fresh recusal application in the matter, as the previous judge in the case recused himself.
