Cole Alexander made a good run in the 17th minute but missed an early chance at goal for Amakhosi with his chip slipping past the post by a few inches.

A confident Royal squad equally applied pressure on the Glamour Boys.

Victor Letsoalo antagonised the Chiefs defence in the first half before finally converting.

Letsoalo beat three defenders, diving for a low square ball before heading it in on 34 minutes.

Amakhosi management, including football manager Bobby Motaung, were frustrated spectators in the stands.

Stuart Baxter went into half-time with some thinking to do.

Chiefs returned from its pep talk in the change rooms with a hunger for goals but Royal AM goalie Patrick Nyame wouldn’t have it.

The Amakhosi bench was up in arms when the referee denied Khama Billiat a penalty following a foul in the box.

Chiefs keeper Brandon Petersen made a poor debut for the team, conceding a second goal from Letsoalo in the 65th minute.

Letsoalo made good use of a free kick on the edge of the box, making a powerful shot into the right corner of the goals.

Sfiso Hlanti revived Chiefs’ hopes at the 74th minute but the celebrations didn’t last long.

Defender Sibusiso Mabiliso netted an own goal for Chiefs making the score line 1-3 to Royal AM.

The KZN-based team held on to their lead with 4 minutes of stoppage time added.

In a race against time, Mfundo Thikazi put the final nail on the coffin when he led a three man charge for Royal against two Chiefs defenders.

Thikazi put one in the back of the net on 94 minutes, bringing the tally up to four goals.
