The DStv Premiership club made the announcement on Monday.

The Cape Town club is in seventh place on the log after winning nine and losing eight from 26 matches.

The 58-year-old Dutch coach came under fire after a humiliating 5-1 defeat to in-form Amazulu on Wednesday.

“The club can confirm that it has placed coach Jan Olde Riekerink on administrative leave, with immediate effect,” the club announced on Twitter.

“Club assistant coach Diogo Peral will take charge of the team until further notice.”

The Citizens also lost 1-0 to TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.

Riekerink was appointed by the club in November 2019 after it parted ways with current Amazulu boss Benni McCarthy.
