Kaizer Chiefs score 2-1 comeback win over Tuks
Updated | By ANA
The University of Pretoria were beaten 2-1 by Kaizer Chiefs in an Absa Premiership clash at the Tuks Stadium on Wednesday night. AmaTuks led 1-0 at halftime.
Facing rearguard battle to stave off any relegation concerns, a motivated Tuks came out of the blocks quickly. They took the game to Chiefs and took the lead as early as the fourth minute when Vuyusile Ntombayithethi scored with a superb long range effort.
Chiefs picked up their game and went in search of an equaliser, but found the Tuks defence in a resolute mood. On the break, though, the university team was dangerous and they were unlucky not to increase their advantage when Lennox Bacela squandered a great opportunity.
At the other end, Chiefs kept on pressing and a few chances opened up. Bernard Parker went close, George Maluleka shot wide and George Lebese drilled an effort just over the cross bar.
In the second half, it was all Chiefs as Tuks sat deep in defence to protect their one-goal lead. Lebese had another chance and Parker’s header was saved by Tuks goalkeeper, Tristyn Coetsee.
In the 53rd minute, Chiefs made a change, bringing on Reneilwe Letsholonyane for Lucky Baloyi. The Soweto club was playing some smart football, with Lesholonyane put into space after a neat passing move, but the substitute shot narrowly wide.
To beef up the attack, Chiefs then brought on striker Edward Manqele in place of Lebese in a last-ditch attempt to draw level. Chiefs defender Keagan Ritchie broke free soon after and was in on goal, but was foiled by Coetsee. Something had to give, though, and, after a goalmouth scramble in the 71st minute, Letsholonyane reacted quickest to stab the ball into the net and make the score 1-1.
With their tails up, Chiefs went in search of the winner – and it came five minutes before fulltime when Parker’s corner found Willard Katsande at the far post, and the Zimbabwean made no mistake with the header.
