Martin Bester honours nine-year-old hero, Kaila
A primary school pupil did the unthinkable when she saw a fellow runner struggling.
Her good deed was witnessed by cross-country running coach and parent, Thinus van der Heever.
Thinus became concerned when he didn’t see Laerskool Warmbad pupil Kaila Germishuizen cross the finish line. She was far away from the finish line, but all for a good reason, which brought van der Heever to tears.
Kaila helped a fellow runner, Sephokwane from Groblersdal Academy, over thorns as she was barefoot.
Kaila said on Breakfast with Martin Bester that a few sections of the track were covered in thorns and Kaila was shattered when a marshal told her she wasn’t allowed to help the girl.

The two girls finished behind the rest, but Kaila won a race of a different kind.
Kaila said: ”I hope that I'm friends with her now".
Thinus, a co-founder of Edu-Discipline, a company that specialises in a holistic approach to the implementation and management of disciplinary systems within the school community, said the love Kaila and Sephokwane are receiving is incredible. "It just shows how much people care. If you see a need in your community, one shouldn't think twice about helping."
Kaila was accompanied by her loving family.
