"If someone asks you to explain what South Africa looks like over there, here's the picture," said Izak du Plessis, along with a now-viral video showing a severely damaged taxi sweeping across a road in Pretoria.

"I guess you'd call it critical, but stable."

According to the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD), the video of the damaged taxi smashing into another car was taken in Arcadia, Pretoria.

The video shows a taxi that is so severely damaged it's almost impossible to believe it is still moving as it sweeps across the road.

As the taxi moves forward, a car facing it desperately tries to escape the situation, but without success.

The taxi continues moving forward, smashing into the car in front of it. It doesn’t stop and then continues to sweep away chairs and tables on the side of the road.

Online reports suggested that several passengers inside the taxi sustained injuries, but TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba told Caxton Network News that the department cannot verify any injuries.

It was also reported that the incident occurred on Tuesday in Wessels Street, after the taxi had been involved in a different crash.

"The driver remained entrapped in the vehicle following the crash. A truck that was in the vicinity was not damaged, although it did spill oil on the road as it had been transporting bulk oil. Emergency services were called to the scene to assist the injured and clear the spillage,|" said a Facebook post by News South Africa.
