Video footage of a reckless delivery driver nearly striking two fighting elephant bulls in the Kruger National Park has left visitors and authorities angered.
According to Lowvelder, the incident occurred on the H1-2 near Skukuza on 28 July.
In the video, taken by Pretoria resident Azille Engelbrecht, two elephants can be seen facing off against each other while several park visitors watch the interaction from their vehicles.
While most of the vehicles remained stationary, allowing the natural interaction to play out without interference, one delivery driver decided to push past the other guests.
“We tried to stop the driver when he pushed through the parked vehicles while we were watching the skirmish,” Engelbrecht told Lowvelder.
“I told him to be careful, but he said he was behind on his deliveries and would drive on.”
After pushing through the vehicles, the driver reached the front of the queue.
After hesitating for a moment, he sped towards the elephants, swerved across the road and nearly hit one of the animals.
Both elephants ran into the bushes alongside the road.

“When we drove past the animals, they were standing on either side of the road, shaking their heads and flapping their ears,” Engelbrecht added.
“We will track the culprit down, and he will be issued a hefty fine. The action might include a ban from entering the park,” Kruger National Park spokesperson Rey Thakuli said after authorities became aware of the incident.
Lowvelder reports that the owner of the company immediately took action against the driver after being informed of the incident.
“We are extremely disappointed and concerned about this incident,” he told Lowvelder.
“My family has been doing business in the reserves for over 25 years, and this is something I never thought would occur with one of our drivers.”
The driver has reportedly been suspended.
