The 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) once again turned heads as it celebrated the continent's film, television and fashion industries.

The glamorous event was held on Saturday, 9 May, at Eko Hotels in Lagos, Nigeria.

The 12th edition of the AMVCAs was hosted by South African star Nomzamo Mbatha and Nigerian comedian Bovi.

The pair brought a mix of high-end glamour and entertainment to the stage while honouring the year's top achievers.

Often regarded as Africa's biggest night in film and fashion, the event celebrated not only Africa’s creativity in film and television, but also the fashion the continent has to offer.

The red carpet lived up to its reputation, with filmmakers and celebrities showcasing theatrical designs and massive sculptural gowns.

The look that stole the show

Although there were many jaw-dropping ensembles on display, there was one that truly stole the show.

Reality star Queen Mercy Atang made a massive statement when she stepped onto the red carpet in a dress made from more than 500 loaves of bread.

The gown was so large that it required several assistants to help Atang navigate the event.

There were also two maidens carrying trays of bread.

She admitted that moving around in the heavy outfit was quite a challenge.

Speaking to the BBC, Atang said the look was not just for shock value, but was also a deliberate move to promote her bread-baking business.

"What other place is better to advertise my business than the AMVCA?" she said.

The viral creation was designed by Toyin Lawani of Tiannah's Empire.

Taking to Instagram, the designer suggested this could be the start of a new movement, commenting that she wants to see "everyone wear your business".

Unsurprisingly, the "bread dress" quickly became the top trending topic on social media that night.
