We all know our Proteas are world-class on the field, but have you ever wondered what the pay cheque looks like for South Africa's top cricketers?

It turns out that being a South African cricketer comes with a handsome payout.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) continues to reward players through annual central contracts and match fees. This ensures that players who perform well are well compensated for their efforts.

Financially, Cricket South Africa has a net worth of around $47 million, about R777 million.

Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma, David Miller and Kagiso Rabada are leading the pack as the top earners in the squad.

According to Cricbites, these stars are all looking at a massive payday every season.

“The highest-paid players include Kagiso Rabada, Aiden Markram, David Miller and Temba Bavuma. Each earns around $350 000 or more per year from CSA, not even taking into account franchise and endorsement income,” the publication reported.

That is roughly R5.7 million a season.

According to The South African, this amount applies to T20 captain Markram, Test and ODI leader Bavuma, as well as David Miller and Rabada.

It is important to remember that the R5.7 million is just the starting point.

That figure is only their base salary from Cricket South Africa (CSA).

It does not even include their match-day bonuses, performance incentives or those lucrative advertising deals.

The South African also pointed out that the team's winning streak at the T20 World Cup has been great for the players’ pockets.

The team banked R3.5 million thanks to seven back-to-back wins, which works out to R500 000 per match in win bonuses.

With the team qualifying for the semi-finals, they are set to earn even more.

If they manage to secure a spot in the final, South Africa could be in line for an even bigger payday.
