Hunter Kennedy performs brand-new single on Friday Live
South African musician Hunter Kennedy performed his latest single, 'Waiting for Maria,' on Breakfast with Martin Bester's Friday Live.
The talented Hunter Kennedy, best known for being part of iconic local bands Fokofpolisiekar and Die Heuwels Fantasties, has had a prolific career in the South African music industry.
Kennedy is more than just a musician and has earned the title of musical genius for his impeccable songwriting and cultural impact on Afrikaans music, the Afrikaans community, and South Africa as a whole.
He begins a new solo chapter with a body of work presented entirely in English. Under the working title 'The Problem With People Is They Tend To Generalise,' this project explores dualities, mental health, and creative freedom, offering words for feelings that are often hard to express.

At its core is a commitment to authenticity: making music that matters, regardless of expectation, and embracing all the honesty and risk that come with it.
The single 'Waiting for Maria' continues to set the tone with a stripped-back arrangement and emotionally direct songwriting. While intentionally intimate, the project promises a wider sonic and thematic range.
As it unfolds, the jokes get sadder, the sadness gets louder, and the weird gets weirder.
Kennedy joined Breakfast with Martin Bester to give listeners a taste of his solo career with a live performance of 'Waiting for Maria.'
