Increase in rock attacks on popular highway puts officials on high alert
There has been a rise in rock attacks. Here’s what you need to know.
Motorists have once again been urged to remain vigilant when travelling on the N4 between Pretoria and Hartbeespoort.
Rekord has reported that security patrols are responding to attacks almost daily.
The N4 is notorious for these types of attacks, with previous traps resulting in robberies and even murder.
The latest reported incident occurred on Monday, 20 July, when an elderly motorist’s vehicle was damaged by rocks that were allegedly thrown onto the road.
Kyle Vosloo of SDS Protection told Rekord that members found rocks scattered across the road after responding to an alert.
“When we arrived, five suspects fled from the scene,” Vosloo said.
Fortunately, SDS Protection members found the damaged vehicle and assisted the motorist.
According to Vosloo, these attacks mostly take place between the two Magalies toll plazas on the N4 near Hartbeespoort.
SDS Protection now patrols the route several times a day.
The attacks are most commonly reported at the following times:
- Early in the morning
- Late in the afternoon
