JMPD officer caught on camera grabbing driver by the neck
The government has been urged to take action against a JMPD officer who was seen grabbing a driver by the neck.
A now-viral video showing a JMPD officer grabbing a man by the neck and pulling him out of a vehicle has sparked outrage among community members and officials.
Video footage taken from inside the vehicle shows two men being pulled over by JMPD officers.
Once one of the officers approaches the driver’s window, the interaction quickly takes a dark turn.
The driver and the officer can be seen arguing before the officer grabs the man by the throat.
After a while, he releases the man and the argument continues.
Moments later, officers open the vehicle’s door and attempt to forcibly remove the driver.
When the man refuses to be grabbed, one officer again grabs him by the neck, pulls him out of the vehicle and throws him to the ground.

The DA in the City of Johannesburg has called on Mayor Dada Morero to ensure that urgent disciplinary action is taken against the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department officers involved.
“One officer is seen as the aggressor and broke the law by using unnecessary force when there was no threat,” the DA said in a statement.
“The other officers present should face the same judgement for being accomplices and failing to stop the violent attack on a harmless motorist.”
“We have written to Mayor Dada Morero to demand that the officers be criminally charged.”

While the department has not yet received a formal complaint regarding this specific matter, an active investigation is officially underway through our Internal Affairs Unit using all available evidence currently at our disposal. To ensure a thorough and complete investigation, we strongly encourage the complainants to come forward and provide formal statements to investigators.
As an organisation, the JMPD unequivocally condemns any abuse of power, misconduct, corruption, or unprofessional behavior that undermines public trust and damages the integrity of law enforcement
