Netflix app changes to introduce social media style videos
Netflix has announced upcoming changes to its app to better suit shorts- and reels-style content.
Online streaming service Netflix is one of the catalysts that forever changed the modern-day way of watching television. Today, it is the biggest streaming service by paying subscribers.
In an attempt to keep up with global trends and to compete with popular social media platforms, the streaming giant is now bringing changes to its mobile app.

According to online reports, Netflix is working on a massive overhaul of its mobile app, which will be introduced in late 2026.
The revamp was reportedly announced during an investor call for the company's fourth-quarter 2025 results last week.
One of the biggest changes to grab attention is the focus on shorts- and reels-style content for phones.
"We've been testing vertical video features for some time, about six months or so. We've had a vertical video feed in the mobile experience that's been available for several months. That feed is filled with clips of Netflix shows and movies. You can imagine us bringing more clips based on new content types like video podcasts," said Netflix chief financial officer Spencer Neumann during the earnings call.

"Really, this is part of a broader upgrade of our mobile experience. Just as you’ve seen us do with the new TV user interface, we’re working on a new mobile UI that will better serve the expansion of our business over the decade to come. We’re going to roll this out later in 2026."
This decision comes as an attempt to better compete with social media platforms where short-form videos are widely available.
Other reported changes coming to the mobile app could include video podcasts and cloud gaming.
