South Africans have long been in love with the legendary Sixto ‘Sugarman’ Rodriguez, with hits like ‘Sugarman’ and ‘I Wonder’ sweeping the nation.

Now fans are being treated to a refreshed version of the iconic song ‘Sugarman’.

The inspiration behind the single is to honour and pay tribute to the late Rodriguez by releasing an updated, modern contemporary version of the No. 1 hit song ‘Sugarman’.

It features top South African artists, along with Rodriguez’s daughter, all singing different verses and lines individually and together in harmony.

This ensemble includes six special guest artists: Sandra Rodriguez, Ross Learmonth, Khan Morbee, Mark Beling, Marc Skarda, and Graham Gillot.

The final verse features unreleased audio of the legend himself, Rodriguez, singing along with the group.

In celebration of this new refreshed version of ‘Sugarman’, Rodriguez guitarist Graham Gillot joined Breakfast with Martin Bester to perform ‘I Wonder’ on Friday Live.

‘Touring with the Legend – A Tribute to Rodriguez’

‘Touring with the Legend’ is the ultimate Rodriguez tribute show. Get to know the man behind the legend as the show celebrates the music of Rodriguez, with personal stories from the road during his tours in South Africa and the USA.

Featuring a live band with a song list including: ‘I Wonder’, ‘Sugarman’, ‘Crucify Your Mind’, ‘Street Boy’, ‘Only Good for Conversation’, ‘You’d Like to Admit It’, ‘Climb Up on My Music’, ‘Halfway Up the Stairs’, ‘Forget It’, ‘Jane S. Piddy’, ‘Like Janis’, ‘Hate Street Dialogue’, ‘Establishment Blues’, ‘Inner City Blues’, ‘Can’t Get Away’, ‘To Whom It May Concern’, ‘Rich Folks’, and more.

The show is presented by Graham Gillot, who personally toured several times with Rodriguez, from 2004 in South Africa to his very last US tour in February 2020, just before the Covid pandemic hit and cancelled the remainder of his US tours.

Sadly, because of this, Rodriguez never toured again.
