The safest countries to visit in 2026
Look at these countries if you're planning another international trip.
When travelling abroad, there are many factors to take into consideration, with safety being one of the top priorities for many people.
For its annual ranking of the safest countries in the world, Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection (BHTP) conducted a survey to find the safest countries for travellers to visit.

This survey is completed by asking a large group of American travellers where they have travelled in the last five years. Only people who have visited specific countries can then rate those countries on safety.
These findings were then combined with other data, including the Global Peace Index, data from Numbeo, and an average of the GeoSure Global scores of the major cities in each country.
"From there, we blend in past results with the scores from outside sources and calculate a weighted score that reflects each country's overall safety," said BHTP.

"The beauty of this approach is its balance. No one score tips the balance in favour of one country over another, and each score contributes to the overall score."
The top safest countries for tourists to visit
After combining all the data, BHTP was able to compile a list of the safest countries for travellers in 2026.

- Austria
- Iceland
- Canada
- New Zealand
- United Arab Emirates
- Switzerland
- Japan
- Ireland
- Belgium
- Portugal
- France
- United Kingdom
- Denmark
