On a good day, school runs can be chaotic and rushed, and winter brings its own set of struggles when it comes to the morning rush.

During winter, the temptation to hit the snooze button or stay in your pyjamas for as long as possible is real.

However, giving in to that temptation could sometimes lead to inappropriate situations.

A Cape Town primary school has reminded parents that, while it understands that school runs can be a race against time, pyjamas are not appropriate attire when dropping off or picking up children from school.

The school sent out a notice urging parents and guardians to help maintain a respectful atmosphere by dressing appropriately before entering the school grounds.

“We kindly request all parents and guardians to enter the school premises neatly and appropriately dressed at all times,” the school said.

“Parents and guardians are requested not to come to the school wearing pyjamas or sleepwear.”

The notice also outlined clothing that it deems appropriate, such as neat jeans or long trousers, dresses or skirts of an appropriate length, shirts or T-shirts, and tidy shoes or sandals.

Clothing that is “not permitted” includes pyjamas, dressing gowns, sleep bonnets, revealing outfits, clothing with offensive language, and torn or untidy garments.

“We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining a professional and respectful school environment for our learners, staff and visitors,” the school concluded.

A lesson for all parents and guardians

If you need another reason not to wear pyjamas during the school run, mom and lifestyle and fashion content creator Refilwe Chirwa made a video demonstrating why it could end badly.
