Video footage of a white Ford bakkie driving off a steep embankment on a road has left South Africa in shock.
The video, which was shared far and wide on social media, first shows the vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road, swerving across the lanes.
The driver then seems to move back onto the correct side of the road, but just moments later swerves again, this time driving off the side of the road.

It is clear that it was a steep drop, as the bakkie immediately disappears from sight.
Other motorists recorded the shocking moment and shared it on social media.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, 27 October, on the R40 between Mbombela and White River in Mpumalanga
Mandla Chauke, spokesperson for Mpumalanga's Department of Community Safety and Security Liaison, confirmed upon inquiry from Maroela Media that the incident occurred on Monday morning near the eBundu Lodge.
Social media speculation suggests that the driver allegedly suffered an epileptic attack, causing them to lose consciousness.
They then reportedly regained consciousness momentarily and realised they were in front of a truck, prompting them to swerve out of the way.

It is believed that the driver received medical care after the incident, and a passenger who was also in the vehicle walked away unscathed.
Further information surrounding the incident isn't available at this time.
"We can confirm that the video being circulated contains footage of an incident that occurred on Monday morning, but we have not yet received a full report of the incident," said Chauke.
