LOOK: Shopping centre's dress code for women sparks controversy
A local shopping centre has sparked fierce debate after telling women to "keep their private parts private."
The way you present yourself to the world often influences how you are perceived, and this includes what you wear.
This is why dress codes are often implemented in formal settings such as workplaces and schools.
But when it comes to public spaces, should people not be able to wear whatever they like?

Well, a local shopping centre in Mbombela decided to implement a modesty policy.
According to a post on Reddit, the shopping centre in allegedly posted an official dress code for women visiting the centre.

"Official Rules in Sonpark Shopping Centre," a poster on the wall reads.
The post continues to warn people to "keep [their] privates private."
"Please dress appropriately and think about other people. If we feel you are exposing yourself too much, we will kindly ask you to leave the premises," reads the poster.
The post sparked quite a bit of controversy on Reddit.

The Sonpark website also has an official "Dress & Appearance" policy, which is not explicitly directed at women.
"To maintain a respectful, family-oriented environment, visitors are expected to dress modestly at all times," says the website.
Here is the policy as per the website:
- No revealing or indecent clothing. This includes overly revealing crop tops, short skirts or shorts, see-through fabrics, clothing that exposes undergarments, or any attire considered overly provocative.
- Shirts/tops and footwear must be worn in all public areas.
- Clothing with offensive, obscene, or hateful wording or images is not allowed.
- For safety reasons, no face coverings, helmets, or hoods that obscure identity (except religious headwear).
Jacaranda FM also reached out to the Sonpark Centre management, who confirmed that the poster included rules for men as well.
