New research, which included a deep dive into hashtags on Instagram and tens of thousands of TikTok posts, named two African safari parks as the most Instagrammable safari destinations in the world.
According to the study by UK holiday company Travelbag, South Africa’s Kruger National Park was ranked joint first with Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park as the most Instagrammable.
Kruger National Park
The Kruger National Park ranks among the largest game reserves in Africa, covering nearly 20,000 square kilometres.
It is home to the iconic Big Five: lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo, and also hosts a variety of birdlife, stunning scenery, and constant wildlife encounters.
The statistics highlight its popularity:
- Instagram hashtags: over 1 million
- TikTok posts: 74,600+
A big part of Kruger's charm is how easy it is to reach. Unlike some safari destinations that demand charter flights or lengthy journeys, Kruger can be accessed directly from Johannesburg.

The park also suits all types of visitors, from those seeking affordable camping to those looking for ultra-luxurious lodges.
"In South Africa, Kruger National Park shines during the off-peak months when the dry season draws animals to waterholes, making game drives particularly rewarding and peaceful," said Suzanne Harvey, Head of Destination Experts at Travelbag.
