The Lonehill Residents Association (LRA) has launched the Lonehill Live Street Cameras system as part of an ongoing initiative to improve community connectivity and safety

The new system gives residents real-time access to traffic conditions so they can better plan their routes, avoid congestion, and stay informed about road incidents.

According to Fourways Review, the system also records up to 14 days of traffic footage, which can assist with road safety analysis and incident reporting.

The Lonehill Residents Association says the LRA traffic camera feed is available exclusively to members of the association and is provided for informational purposes only.

"The Lonehill Live Street Cameras system has been successfully unveiled to the public. This project started about 11 months ago to help residents deal with congestion on our streets," said Keith Rampton, General Manager of the LRA.

"Lonehill is a notorious cut-through for motorists travelling between Winnie Mandela, Witkoppen, and Main roads, often causing gridlock on some days. This project gives our residents a snapshot of current road conditions so they can plan their travel and avoid unnecessary delays," Rampton added.

Residents will be able to view cameras located at the busy intersections of Main and Witkoppen, Lonehill Boulevard and Mulbarton Circle, Lonehill and Concourse, as well as Lonehill and Crestwood, and Lesley and Turley Avenues.

The system was developed with Fidelity and uses the suburb’s existing network of over 70 security cameras covering Lonehill, Beverley, Pineslopes, and Lonehill Upper East.

AI-powered systems are already making a difference, with smarter analytics helping to reduce crime in the area.

To maintain privacy, only low-resolution cameras are used for the traffic feed. This ensures the footage is strictly for monitoring traffic flow, not zooming in on personal details

Currently, the live feed is in its testing phase and open to the public for a limited time. Once the trial concludes, access will be reserved for LRA members or made available through a subscription service.

"Our goal is to provide a practical, privacy-conscious tool that improves safety and convenience for everyone who lives and travels in Lonehill," added Rampton.
